Christmas Eve Hike-Sonoran Trail

My hubby and I spent Christmas Eve day hiking on the Sonoran Trail in McDowell National Park. It’s easy access from Fountain Hills as you can reach the trail head at the end of Golden Eagle Blvd. Go ahead and park your car in the small parking lot and begin your hike at the entrance to Eagles Nest. You’ll follow the paved walk through the subdivison until you see the trail head. Here is the entrance to the McDowell National Park and the start of the Dixie Mine Trail. This is a fairly easy open trail with a few short steep hills and beautiful desert scenery. About .6 miles along the trail you will reach an intersection where you can then continue on the Dixie Mine Trail or chose to take the Sonoran trail which heads southwest. The Sonoran Trail offers hikers spectacular views of the surrounding McDowells and Verde River Valley with the Mazatzal Mountains and Four Peaks in the distance. The trail is 2.6 miles in length and has a gradual climb with elevation changes from 2170 ft to 2500 ft. Below you can see a few pictures we took.
