Hiking Butcher Jones Trail

My husband and I love hiking and try to go every chance we get. Recently we visited the Butcher Jones Trail over at Saguaro Lake. First off don’t believe the hiking books or what they say online saying the trail is well marked, at least not at the start as we could not find the trail head and only saw the sign that said dock closed.

The trail winds long the lake on the first half of the hike, going from open views of the lake, to passing through parts of a beautiful Mesquite Bosque which provides welcome shade on a hot day. It is about a 2.5 mile hike to Burro Cove as you ascend up to a saddle to the east. At the top of the saddle a panoramic view of the Four Peaks Wilderness is in full view. Great place to stop and have a picnic. Overall I think this is one of the best hikes we have done. The views were beautiful, the length of the hike was perfect ( approx 5 miles round trip) and very few people on the trail, just the way we  like it!
