Are you looking for a primary or second home in Scottsdale. It can be a little confusing on where to start your search unless you have a few parameters in mind. Master planned communities are very popular and if you are from the Midwest or east coast you may be unfamiliar with what exactly a master planned community is. Also Scottsdale is by no means small..It is approximately 184 square miles with a population of 217,385 people (2010). So where do you start?
Scottsdale consists of some of the best master-planned communities in the country. These developments offer single family homes, town homes, condos, golf properties, and estates, in various types of gated communities. Typically the community offers its residents amenities that are not open to the public and in order to maintain the premises you become part of a Homeowners Association. The fees vary depending on your association and the amenities that are offered. Some communities are within gated communities with golf privileges, while others offer more amenities including a clubhouse, fitness center, community pool, tennis, local events, and restaurants. Some master planned communities such as DC Ranch and McDowell Mountain Ranch also have their own elementary schools right inside the community making it very convenient for parents.
For the seasonal visitor who we call snowbirds a gated master planned community can be a great option because of the sense of security when away for months at a time, having amenities available and at the same time knowing outside maintenance is taken care of.
Below are a few of my favorite Scottsdale master planned communities that you may want to check out:
Terravita-The gated community of Terravita was designed by Del Webb and is located in North Scottsdale. There are 1300 homes on 823 acres, each homeowner has a Country Club membership, which includes a health and fitness club, pool and tennis facilities.
Ancala Country Club- Ancala Country Club is nestled in the foothill of the McDowell Mountains and is one of Scottsdale’s most prestigious private country clubs. Majestic views and lush fairways offer a memorable golf experience.
McDowell Mountain Ranch- McDowell Mountain Ranch is a master planned community located at the foothills of the McDowell Mountains. This master planned community offers residents miles of nature trails, a community center, two pools, tennis courts, and much more.
Dc Ranch/Silverleaf- Vernon D. Swaback, the youngest apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright, served as architect of DC Ranch. Swaback refers to DC Ranch as “an orchestration of natural materials,” The design of the homes, lights, bridges, all blend in with the character of the desert. Silverleaf is part of the DC Ranch community with luxury homes starting at $1 million.
Troon- Troon is a luxury North Scottsdale community known for its unique desert landscape and golf courses. You’ll find a range of properties available for sale from modestly priced town homes to grand estates.
